CHAFF CO.

"Chaff Co." is a research project exploring the potential of coffee chaff, a cellulose-rich waste byproduct of coffee production, as a sustainable design material.

Using a Material-Driven Design (MDD) framework, "ChaffCo." explored the sensory qualities of coffee chaff—its texture, aroma, and aesthetic appeal—and developed a product line including candles, paper, and a pen. These artifacts showcased the potential of waste valorization in sustainable design while emphasizing energy efficiency and emotional value.

This project deepened my understanding of how waste materials can be reimagined into valuable artifacts. The hands-on, co-creative process taught me to let materials guide design outcomes and highlighted the importance of circular design principles. I also honed my skills in emotional design, learning how multisensory engagement fosters positive user responses.

"ChaffCo." reinforced my passion for sustainable design and material innovation. It connected me to the broader context of waste management and its role in environmental and social sustainability, refining my ability to create emotional and aesthetic connections between people and materials.
